First Alert Acquires Agency Certification for Tundra Fire Extinguishing Spray
Certification by Intertek Testing Services (ETL) Draws Upon Domestic and International Compliance Standards
Aurora, Ill. (May 29, 2008) – Following rigorous testing and evaluation by Intertek Testing Services (ETL), Tundra™ Fire Extinguishing Spray has achieved product certification. ETL developed the criteria with several North American and International standards certifying it in fire performance, construction requirements, components, and manufacturing requirements. These include:
- UL Subject 711A effectiveness against grease and cooking oil fires.
- UL 711 Electrical Conductivity electrical conductivity of spray to 35,000 Volts.
- KOFEIS 0108 fire extinguishing performance, construction, usage, and effectiveness on trash can fires, curtain fires and cushion fires.
- British Standard BS 6165:2002 materials, construction and operations requirements.
With First Alert Tundra Fire Extinguishing Spray in compliance with all of the applicable requirements provided with these standards, the ETL classification mark will now be included on the product. First Alert Tundra Fire Extinguishing Spray is currently the only life safety product in compliance with UL Subject 711A.
Tundra Fire Extinguishing Spray contains a powerful, proven and effective liquid firefighting agent and familiar spray nozzle design that is easier to operate and covers a wider surface area–up to three times greater than a typical actuator. Performance tests also show that the discharge time for Tundra Fire Extinguishing Spray is up to four times greater than typical fire extinguishers, giving users more time to fight the fire. Tundra Fire Extinguishing Spray is effective on common household fires including paper, fabric, wood, cooking oil and safe for electrical fires. "With cooking as the number one cause of home fires, Tundra is a welcome new tool to keep families safer in the kitchen and throughout their home," says Meri-K Appy, president of the nonprofit Home Safety Council. "The fact that it has been classified by an independent testing laboratory gives consumers an important measure of confidence in the product."
The firefighting agent in Tundra Fire Extinguishing Spray is non-toxic and easy to cleanup. Once the fire is out and the area is cool, simply wipe the surface area with a damp cloth.
Just nine inches tall and weighing about 22 ounces, Tundra Fire Extinguishing Spray is compact and lightweight making it easy to use. The product is available at many retail locations nationwide.
